Apple has unveiled its latest range of iPhones under the iPhone 12 marquee and will be making them available to its international customers starting at a price of iPhone 12 Mini for $699 and iPhone 12 for $799.
A total of four iPhones have been launched in the new lineup – iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max as the first-ever generation of 5G enabled devices from the house of Apple.
In an online launch event kick-started by a speech from Apple CEO Tim Cook, Apple first introduced its smaller “HomePod mini,” an AI-based home assistant powered by Apple’s own Siri. It boasts of a “computational audio” to adjust loudness, dynamic range, and more. More importantly, it promises a complete integration with all Apple devices so one can send short Siri notes to other Apple contacts. Homepod Mini has been priced at $99 and will start shipping on November 16th.
While the HomePod mini is impressive in its own way, it was the iPhone lineup that the world awaited before the launch. So much so that leaks around the iPhones surfaced just hours before the event started.
Serving as the most critical model of the lot, iPhone 12 comes with a Super Retina XDR display or “Apple custom OLED” with 460 PPI, twice as many pixels as the iPhone 11. This display is protected by a new material called Ceramic shield, that Apple claims are “tougher than any smartphone glass.”
The new iPhone 12 will be powered by Apple’s own A14 Bionic chipset, which comes as the successor to the A13 Bionic chip featured in the iPhone 11. Apple says that it is the world’s first chipset based on 5-nanometer technology, enabling more features in a smaller size, like a 6 core CPU as well as the 4 core GPU on the iPhone. Apple claims that the CPU is 50% faster than those on any other smartphone. Apple says that iOS has been optimized for 5G as well.
iPhone 12 Mini
One that many looked forward to, Apple launched its iPhone 12 Mini alongside the iPhone, as the smallest 5G enabled smartphone ever, sporting a smaller 5.4-inch display. Equipped with the same features as the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Mini will appeal to a larger crowd at a more affordable price. Both the iPhone models have IP68 water resistance too.
iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max
As its Pro models, Apple launched the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max with the latter having the “largest-ever display on an iPhone” to date. While the iPhone 12 Pro comes with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display. the Pro Max extends it to 6.7-inch, giving it quite a huge frame as a smartphone. Both models feature nearly identical form factors.
As for the performance, the iPhone 12 Pro models come with a custom Image Signal Processor built into the A14 Bionic.
